The Specialist Medical Centre in Coffs Harbour has a massive daytime power demand. The biggest problem in respects to this client was trying to get the most kW output per m2 of available roof-space.
The roof of the Specialist Medical Centre is flat so the solar panels would need to be tilted. The height of the building would also be a factor in terms of exposure to increased wind speed.
The last concern was based on the type of roof sheeting used on the Specialist Medical Centre, the TrimDek profile rood sheeting used had no screw fixture points. The client requested no new roof penetrations.
We sourced for our client newly released 300w solar panels. These solar panels were 50w larger than your standard 250w solar panels hence we could increase output by 20%.
To allow for the increased wind-speed we used premium roof mounting by Radiant which allowed for a non penetrating roof anchor system. The Tilt angle was reduced to 17.5 deg to reduce the shade impact – thus allowing more panels to be installed whilst also reducing the ‘sail’ area to any prevailing southerly winds.
The 48.8kW solar system will offer the client a long term solution to alleviating high daytime energy demands from the grid. The solar system is expected to reduce the clients daytime energy demands by approximately 30% and should achieve energy savings of around $19,000 per year.
